The Most Sustainable New Architecture

The client's inspiration was a modern interpretation of a Danish summer home. The typical summer homes are one and a half stories, with the second floor "hidden in the roof line". As with the homes found on the Danish coast, EcoBUILT | 631 is a one and a half story home. The second floor's ceiling are 14'-0" vaulted spaces defined by the roof. The owners sought a home allowing simple contemporary living, a forum to display their art collection, and an eco-friendly environment. The vast planes of glass can be "rolled back" allowing the lush landscaped court yard to become a part of the living spaces.

The client desired to express the planning of the home both in plan and elevation. The homes windows expressed both the location of the structure, and the use of the rooms in the home. The large spans of glass on the first floor are separated by columns which are connected to a perimeter beam structure that supports the entire second floor. The first floor operable windows designate second floor living spaces, while fixed windows represent utilitarian spaces for either baths or circulation. Contemporary materials are utilized to express the unique structure, and sustainable technologies implemented in the home.
Thirteenth Street Residence

This stately farmhouse style home is located in the exclusive Cage Area of East Wilmette. One of seventeen homes featured in the Luxury Tour of Homes in 2005 and NBC's cooking show "TASTE". The design of the home balances the formal living rooms with spacious informal areas. Finely appointed details include rustic alder cabinetry, gourmet quality appliances, and a marble Master Bath with a spa detailed shower. Three masonry fireplaces capture your attention through out the first and second floor.
EcoBUILT | 1511 - 1517

Tudor Place Residence

This elegant, custom English Tudor fulfills the owners’ dreams and high-lights the benefits of construction management services. Careful and meticulous attention to detail was the cornerstone of this beautiful home - from the custom carved fireplace surrounds, inlaid hardwood flooring, custom built-in media room equipment, to the tile and cabinetry. In addition, the home features many of CODA's EcoBUILD solutions including spray foam insulation and high efficiency variable speed furnaces. All aspects of the home from daily needs, formal entertaining, to long-term performance were researched and implemented.
Ninth Street Residence

This French colonial home is located in the heart of Wilmette just blocks from Lake Michigan. The design of the home balances the formal living spaces with the private family spaces. The traditional formal staircase is replaced with a dramatic double height foyer with a barrel vault ceiling. The private staircase connects the private family areas of the basement, first floor, and second floor. Finely appointed details and amenities complete the style of this home. These amenities include the gourmet, professional-grade kitchen with exquisite maple cabinets, granite counters & backsplashes, masonry fireplaces throughout the home with marble hearths and surrounds, and vaulted ceilings in the second floor bedrooms. This twenty first century home also includes virtual data links in the home office, study, and each bedroom.
Operation Sonrise

It was our honor to support Operation Sonrise in their efforts to raise $25,000.00 by summitting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Mt. Kilimanjaro is Africa's largest peak, and is the tallest free standing mountain in the world. Operation Sonrise was established to raise money for the Sonrise Orphanage in Rwanda, Africa. The orphanage was created in the wake of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda were over 1,000,000 people were murdered in 90 days. As a result, there are over 100,000 orphans in the country. The money was raised to purchase a 12 passenger van to assist the orphanage with reliable transportation to bring volunteers, doctors, supplies, and children to the orphanage.
Avenue Place Condominiums

Located in the historical south Oak Park Avenue District, this mixed use building was one of the first new developments south of the Eisenhower Expressway. Thoughtfully combining commercial and residential condominiums, the facade expresses the use. The commercial condominiums are wrapped in masonry, and capped with a steel lintel. The lintel also designates the beginning of the residential section of the building expressed with cedar. Each unit has access to either a roof terrace or balcony. In addition, each residential unit as a view to the dramatic Chicago skyline. Underground parking and close proximity to the Chicago Transit system provides great amenities to the owners.

Blackthorn Lane Residence

Best Dressed Kitchen Contest Winner ~ Make It BetterAs an interior designer, this client truly collaborated to assure the success of this home. Simple, but pleasing, details are incorporated throughout to create a consistent theme from room-to-room and from inside-to-outside. The area of the kitchen was maximized by incorporating an efficient service island - between the cooking and washing stations - which doubles countertop space. This island is topped with a pleasing marble top, complimenting the remaining countertops, and enhanced by a linear hanging light fixture. A simple color palette assures that all surfaces and spaces contribute to the overall aesthetic and work to visually expand the spaces.
Drury Lane Residence

These 'empty-nest' client were seeking a Cape Code inspired home that afforded them single floor living. All day to day amenities are on the main level including a secluded master suite - located off of the great room, light filled home office, and generous laundry room. The second floor remains exclusively for visiting guests and family. Cape Cod style is consistent with the use of this house the second floor is de-emphasized by being incorporated into the roof. Manipulating the traditional Cape Cod plan creates dramatic views and a secluded patio connected to the maser bedroom, great room, and family room.
Sonrise Board School | Rwanda

It is our pleasure to support the Sonrise Boarding School. Through generous donations by the Wilmette Park District, Wilmette Sport Store, and private donations, we were able to deliver to the school 250 pounds of soccer equipment, school supplies, and yarn during our visit in the summer of 2009. During our 9 day stay at the school, we were able to teach soccer, computers, and knitting; while the students filled our hearts with their love.
EcoBUILT | 1511 - 1517

This skillfully planned community is organized around driving and pedestrian courts maximizing landscaped yards and private courts and provide human scale and dramatic shadows. The open planning of the various 2 & 3 bedroom units offer such fine touches as generous natural light, contemporary kitchens, and private rooftop patios. Common residential materials, such as cedar siding and masonry, are blended in the facade connecting the twelve town homes to the neighborhood. The combination of the site plan and elevations allow the development to individually express itself while utilizing traditional residential materials.

Blackhawk Road Residence

It was a pleasure assisting this repeat customer in all phases of this Nantucket style home - from land acquisition, design development, architecture, construction management, to concierge services. The owners desired a new home with all the latest technology including CODA's EcoBUILD solutions, while maintaining traditional New England detailing. The site afforded the opportunity to create a spacious layout allowing generous room for entertaining both inside and out.
Hickory Lane Residence

This stately English Manor-Home was conceived to separate the entertaining and family activities to simultaneously accommodate formal parties and daily routine. The entertaining portions of the house - living room, dining room, office, bar and study - are connected by a dramatic paneled sweeping stairway and generous formal entrance hall. The more private family portions of the house - bedrooms, kitchen, breakfast bay, family room and media room - are connected by a convenient rear stair with views to the private rear yard through generous windows.Special attention was given to assure that rooms were finely appointed with appropriate, but unique details, such as: cove ceiling lighting, inlaid wood flooring, stained wood ceiling accents, built-in cabinetry, or art niches. Finely crafted woodwork, throughout, heightens the stately elegance of this home. Each of the five fireplaces is uniquely detailed to assure that it is a focal point for its room. The exquisite master bath is an oasis with its marble detailing and generous facilities. The gentleman's study is appointed with cherry cabinetry and trim with rich leather wall accents.
Juniper Road Residence

This home creatively combines the elegance of traditional architecture with the benefits of quality new construction. Distinquishing architectural features include finely proportioned street facade, a spectacular skylit master bath wiht a walk-thru shower, masonry fireplace, and cathedral ceiling. Modern amenities are abundant including a designer eat-in kitchen connected to the family room, and home office with a private entry.
South Avenue Residence

Set amongst mature trees this home has a truly park-like setting. Generous expanses of glass, second floor balcony, and masonry planters adjoining the front entry connect this home to this setting. The interior stair has a dramatic presence in the front entry providing circulation in multiple directions while reinforcing the configuration of the exterior stairs. The planning also allows the client the flexibility to entertain in either a formal or informal manner.
